Maroochydore State High School Study Abroad Trip (Report 3)
On Thursday the students from Tezukayama Gakuin started the day with a beach walk. The weather was warm,but the water was a little cold because it is winter in Australia now. So the students didn’t go swimming, but some students took off their shoes and walked in the ocean.
After the beach walk, the Japanese students attended another Japanese class. They helped teach the Australian students kanji . . They played karuta and a quiz game.
After Japanese class the students went to PE class. They played badminton!
After PE the Japanese students had an English lesson. They played English games until it was time to go home.
On Friday the first lesson was Indigenous Games. The students played two games. In the first game the students
were divided into two teams. The goal was for each team to pass the ball to their teammates five times to score a
point.
The second game was “Catch the Itter .” In this game the students were divided into two teams. One person on one
team was chosen to be the “Itter.” The “Itter” acts like a soccer ball, and the team with the “Itter” trie s to help the
“Itter” run into the other team’s If the other team tags the “Itter” then the person who tagged them becomes
the new “itter” and tries to run into the other team’s goal and so on.
After indigenous games the Japanese students had the ir first English class of the day. They played an English
category game. The students were given a category and then they raced to write English words in the category.
After their English class, it was time for another Japanese class with the Australian students. Some students did
calligraphy and the Japanese students taught the Australian students how to write kanji with brushes and ink.
Other students played a game in which they tried to write Japanese words on the board without looking. Then,everyone went outside and played ball game s and kendama again!
After Lunch it was time for Art class. In this class the students cut up road signs and used them to make new and
interesting pictures. Everybody made very interesting art!
After art class it weas time for another English class. By now everyone was very tired after a long week of classes
and new experiences, so we played English games in groups and then went outside to play Australian ball games.
The students divided into teams and lined up. Then one team member tried to pass the ball to each member of
the team in a relay. The first team to finish was the winner.
After English it was time to go home. The students went home with their host families to spend the weekend. It
was a very fun week for everyone!
